personality:
When he's first introduced, Veronica refers to Logan as the "obligatory psychotic jackass", and it's not very hard to see why. He's basically a horrible person. Everything that comes out of his mouth is a derogatory, insulting, and sometimes racist remark. He treats other people like trash, and only on the rarest occasions shows a tiny ounce of empathy. However, he acts like that because everything in his life has shaped him to become that person.
From a young age, his father both emotionally and physically abused him. His father and family accuse him of making up the stories about the nosebleeds and cigarette burns he endured in his childhood, but the scene where Aaron Echolls punishes him by lashing him with a belt and the way Logan himself tells the stories with such conviction suggests otherwise.
Abused children often grow up to repeat the patterns of their parents, and Logan is a prime example of this. His interactions with women he cares about such as his mother, his sister Trina, and Veronica show that he is very protective of women, but he also has extremely violent tendencies. He gets into numerous fistfights throughout the course of the series. He also has a few noncommittal flings of his own.
But there are very, very clear differences between Logan and Aaron Echolls. He cares for the few people he lets in past his tough outer shell. When his mother died, it completely broke him. The same could be said for Lilly, his dead ex-girlfriend.
Logan often acts like he's not completely sure he deserves to be loved. He's willing to take all his cues from Veronica instead of confront her. When he feels rejected or disappointed, he withdraws from the world, whether it means just moping around his hotel room forlorn and unshaven or consuming heavy amounts of alcohol/doing drugs. He acts like he doesn't care what happens to him, ultimately. He gets into confrontations where the odds are in no way in his favor (e.g., rescuing Veronica from the Irish mob at the River Stix), earning him the title of "poor little rich boy with a deathwish." In the season one finale, he's shown wandering around drunk and despondent on the Coronado Bridge -- the same place his mother committed suicide. It's unclear if he was actively suicidal or just past caring what happens to him.
abilities/powers: No special abilities or anything. He's good at fist fighting and can surf?

third person sample:
He wasn't angry that she had went vacationing in Napa to see Duncan Kane as much as he was angry that she hadn't told him until almost the day of before leaving without a trace. Well, and the whole principle of the thing. She was going to see Duncan Kane. Duncan Kane. Seriously? He abandoned her over the summer, abandoned him while he had to deal with being accused of Felix's murder, but everything was supposed to be okay now. Back to the natural order of things. She was going to ditch Logan, and take that over --
He was just being jealous anyway. And he dealt with it in his usual ways. Surfing. Alcohol. Video games. He could usually bury his feelings deep enough to at least achieve some kind of numbness, if not complacence. And the complacence could be comforting sometimes. It was better than nothing. But now? It only felt like hollowness gnawing away inside him.
His phone went off, and he reached into his pocket to check it. Veronica.
She was back.
Can you come over? I need a favor.
More of the behavior that could only be expected from Veronica Mars. It was tempting to say no. To be a dick and push her away. If he gave her an inch, it would lead to a mile, and then it would lead to hardship. She'd cut him out of her life unless it was convenient to her. You know, whenever she needed one of her numerous favors. The advantages of dating the son of an action star. If you could still consider Aaron Echolls an action star. And if you could consider the two of them still dating. But Logan wanted to believe that this time was different. He wanted to believe that he could make Veronica stay, and if he did this one thing, he'd be set. But that didn't stop the feeling of foreboding that nestled in the pit of his stomach.
He texted her back.
i'll be there in a minute.
One anxious drive in the bright yellow Xterra later, he was striding through the doors of Mars Investigations.
